To equip every parent and caregiver with simple, trustworthy, and up-to-date tools, education, and community support so they can protect their children from online risks and raise confident, healthy digital citizens.
A world where every child grows up safe online because every parent feels empowered, informed, and never alone in navigating the digital landscape.

ScreenSafe Inc. is a 501(c)(3)-pending nonprofit organization founded in 2025 by Erik and Casey Backlund, a husband-and-wife team and parents of three.
We started ScreenSafe Inc. after experiencing firsthand how quickly digital devices and online platforms can expose even the most carefully raised children to inappropriate content, predatory behavior, and addictive design patterns. Like many parents, we felt overwhelmed by constantly changing apps, hidden algorithms, and the sheer volume of new risks appearing every month. We realized that individual families – no matter how vigilant – cannot keep up alone, and that most existing resources were either too technical, too alarmist, or too fragmented to be truly helpful.
ScreenSafe Inc. is built on three core beliefs:
We’re here to walk alongside you with honest answers, step-by-step help, and a judgment-free community of parents who understand exactly what you’re going through. Welcome to the ScreenSafe family.
— Erik & Casey
Founders, ScreenSafe Inc.

Erik is a husband and father of three. He is currently serving as an investigator with the Wisconsin Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, where he investigates online enticement, child sexual exploitation material, and predator networks across apps, games, and social platforms. A former U.S. Army intelligence operator with combat experience, Erik later transitioned to federal law enforcement before joining his current state-level task force, bringing years of digital surveillance, intelligence collection, and undercover experience to every case.
Erik earned his bachelors degree from Columbia Southern University and his Master’s degree from Purdue University. Having personally seen how quickly predators target children sometimes within minutes of a child going online Erik co-founded ScreenSafe Inc. to equip families with the tools and training to protect their children using the built in settings on their devices, as well as some third-party applications that are affordable in order to keep costs down for families.

Casey Backlund is a devoted stay-at-home mom to three young children, whose calm under pressure stems from her previous career as a firefighter and EMT, where she responded to emergencies with quick thinking and compassionate care. Transitioning from the front lines of physical crises to the home front of digital ones, Casey became Erik's very first "student" as their preteens began exploring smartphones, tablets, and social apps—quickly discovering the hidden dangers of cyberbullying, screen addiction, and unsolicited contacts that no fire drill could prepare her for.
As co-founder of ScreenSafe Inc., Casey brings a parent's relatable voice to the mission, creating resources like simple device checklists and family discussion guides that feel like advice from a trusted friend over coffee. She emphasizes that online safety starts with connection—teaching moms and dads to model healthy habits, like shared screen time and "tech-free zones," while building kids' resilience against the emotional toll of digital pitfalls.
